Cool site on Rails, The City

I’ve been helping my church get running on a great church social network service called “The City“.  The City is software to run your different groups inside a church, where people can join, create events, have discussions, post needs, prayer requests and photos.  All the information is private within the group, and the homepage of “The City” shows you a news feed of all the activities that are happening in your groups.

Once a church has it’s groups operating in The City, it gets added benefits of creating an online portal where newcomers can discover groups near them that meet at time they might like by searching/browsing the public profiles of the group.

Organizing and publicizing new events (like meetings, hangouts, service projects) is also a lot faster than calling/emailing around.

Anyway, the whole thing is built in Ruby on Rails.  I think Rails was a great fit for this project because it allowed some guys to implement their ideas quickly in a flexible way, and also provided a strong framework to scale as they expanded it to more churches.
